Sustainability Field Trip

After the Conference, on the 12th of July, 2025, a number of guided city walks will be offered to all registered participants. The walks will provide an occasion to get in touch with the cultural heritage of Budapest in a sustainable manner.

Each walk will start at around 9 a.m. on Saturday and will take approx. 3 hours.

You can choose between the following three options:

  1. Fools And Kings

A historical walk full of the dark tales and beguiling secrets of Budapest’s Castle District. Romance, espionage and the never-ending struggle for power.

This excursion will introduce you to the oldest part of Budapest – the Castle District. Bear with us and learn about kings of yore and invasions that Hungarians had to withstand over the centuries! The medieval ruins and the charming baroque houses in this area will take you back in time and give you a deeper understanding of Hungarian history. Looking out from the most spectacular viewpoints, your tour guide will explain why Buda and Pest are so different and what they have to offer to the weary traveller. (Don’t be surprised if you hear a biased opinion though – there’s still a strong rivalry between the two sides.)
Although the Castle District is one of the most popular tourist hotspots in Budapest, we will make sure to keep you off the beaten track wherever we can so you can explore the hidden local gems as well that are so often overlooked by the crowds.
  2. Budapest Urban Walk

The good ol’ beaten track that will take you to the most famous sights of Budapest. Be warned though: the tour may contain traces of hidden gems.

This generic walking tour will introduce you to the most iconic landmarks of Budapest while you get to ask all your questions about Hungary and how her people think and live. Your tour guide will take you through Hungarian history in a friendly conversation so you can learn about the most memorable moments of the last 1000 years from a native perspective.
You will also be briefed about practical things such as how our public transportation works, where to buy gifts for your loved ones and where to get the best food!
Our Budapest Urban Walk will help you get your bearings and give you some street knowledge that will make your stay in Budapest a glitch-free dream.
  3. Budapest Urban Art

An offbeat walking tour that will take you to Budapest’s alternative hot-spots and the hippest recesses of District 7. Street art, vintage shops and ruin bars in the Underground Paradise.

This tour caters to those who are willing to go out of their comfort zone and experience their holiday destination in a different way. Our Budapest Urban Art tour explores the underground scene of Budapest. Your guide will take you to the best murals and designer stores in the former Jewish Ghetto while you’ll learn about the Hungarian alternative movement and how it has formed our cultural trends over the last fifteen years. Ever since the first ruin bars emerged on the horizon, the alternative crowd has been extremely busy – these people managed to revitalise an entire neighborhood with their creativity and passion.

Please, make your choice between the three options by clicking here by the 3rd of July, 2025. We will send you detailed information about your trip (exact time of start, meeting point, duration) before the Conference.
